Treasures of Ancient Greece

From the rarest golden coins to the great inventions of the era...

The temple treasuries of Ancient Greece served as places of sacred gifts storage, as well as religious and cultural centres of Greek polis and colonies. The "Treasury of Ancient Greece" exposition reveals the secrets of this most interesting phenomenon of ancient culture.

The exhibition contains the oldest and rarest coins of Greek polis and colonies with images of mythological creatures, trade goods, cities’ emblems. The section demonstrates the truly impressive scale of the coin policy coinage.

The exhibition presents coins of the famous Ptolemaic rulers of Alexandria in Egypt and money with portraits of Roman rulers – evidence of the amazing time when Greece, conquered by less developed peoples, raised the invaders’ civilization to unprecedented heights. Along with this, the exhibition introduces authentic Greek ceramics, from amphorae for storing grain and olive oil to painted ceramics and lamps.

A special section of the exhibition is dedicated to the inventions and great discoveries of Greek philosophers and scientists: the first computers, meteorological stations, compasses and taximeters created by the ancient Greeks! The interactive book presented at the exhibition tells the visitors about these incredible pages of Greek culture and demonstrates the basic principles of operation of all the invented mechanisms.

The exhibition also includes treatises from the famous Library of Alexandria, which can be downloaded via a QR code; a thematic interactive that allows you to independently test the "Scales for measuring the Archimedes Power"; a multi-touch table with an interactive map of Ancient Greece and many more.
